Gulfport women arrested in disturbing elder neglect case
GULFPORT (FOX13) - Gulfport police uncover a disturbing case of elder abuse.
Friday night officers were called about a dead person in a home on the 5300-block of 29th Avenue South.
When they got there they found an uninhabitable house that was extreme clutter and infested with roaches with a 66-year-old woman dead inside. Police say the house was so cluttered that they could not walk from room to room as there was no clear path.
The death was reported by the two women who were supposed to be looking after the elderly victim. Police say 41-year-old Jennifer Poulos and 61-year-old Debra Germaine Poulos had moved out of the house 8 to 10 days earlier, when they realized how frail the victim was.
Both are charged with neglect of an elderly or disabled adult.
Jennifer Poulos also had a 4-year-old son who was living in the uninhabitable house for the last 8 months. The Child Protective Investigations Division has since remove the child from her custody pending further investigation.
