Hit-and-run driver, passenger sought in crash that killed 80-year-old

Police identified the driver and passenger who fled from a hit-and-run that killed an 80-year-old husband, they said.

Tampa police are looking for 31-year-old Tracy Evereth Wood, who was identified as the suspected driver. They say he is known to frequent the Seffner and Town ‘N Country areas in Hillsborough County, and they received an arrest warrant for him in connection to the fatal crash.

Police say they identified 43-year-old Miriam Marti-Benning as the passenger and as a person of interest. Detectives say they are hoping to speak to her. 

The crash occurred Saturday afternoon, after police say 80-year-old Felix De la Uz and his wife 69-year-old wife, Narda Vazquez Ruiz, were walking in the 4000 block of West Hillsborough Avenue, when a white Honda Civic, driven by Wood, left the roadway. 

Police say De la Uz pushed his wife out of the car’s path before it him. He passed away at the scene. 
Surveillance video shows Wood and Marti-Benning running between two businesses, and away from the crash scene, police said.
