A Polk County inmate has been convicted in the death of a detention deputy.

Investigators say Terrence Barnett got into a fight with Sergeant Ronnie Brown back in 2009.  When Brown attempted to restrain Barnett, Barnett shoved the deputy, causing him to fall onto his back.

Brown passed away several days later after complications from back surgery.

It took jurors just under two hours to convict Barnett.

He could now face the death penalty.  He'll be sentenced on Tuesday.
