Large alligator lassoed near Arkansas Highway

An alligator was lassoed and caught after it was discovered roaming near an Arkansas highway.

The animal was captured on Highway 165 between DeWitt and Gillett in Arkansas County, the Arkansas Times reported. This video taken by eyewitness Kenneth Sanders shows the moment the alligator was caught.

The video shows at least four people hanging on to the two ropes lassoed around the large gator’s neck. It’s unclear how long it is.

Alligators have been spotted in 45 of Arkansas’ 75 counties, according to the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. They have been in the state for thousands of years, but the population decreased from hunting and draining of wetlands between 1860 and 1960.
