Live blog: FOX 13 calls Florida for Trump

(FOX 13) - Florida voters are historically a closely-watched group due to their power in selecting the president, and 2016 proves to be no different. 

As polls closed across the Bay Area, results have begun to trickle in. This story will be updated as information comes in to the FOX 13 newsroom. 

Florida - 10:10 p.m.

FOX 13's Craig Patrick calls Donald Trump the winner in Florida. 

Florida - 9:50 p.m.

With 93-percent of votes counted in Florida, the presidential race was still too close to call in the state. 

Meanwhile, voters approved Amendments 3 and 5, regarding tax cuts for first responders and revisions to the homestead tax. 

Hernando, Pasco counties - 9:15 p.m. 

Dana Young wins Florida State Senate District 18 race

Pinellas County - 8:55 p.m.

The Associated Press reports Darryl Rouson, Dem, has been elected State Senate, District 19, Florida.

Florida - 8:45 p.m.

Florida voters have rejected Amendment 1 - a utility-funded ballot measure that would have opened the door for changes to the system of credit earned by homeowners who install solar panels and produce surplus energy.

Florida - 8:35 p.m.

The Associated Press says Charlie Crist, Dem, is elected to the U.S. House, District 13, Florida.

Florida - 8:25 p.m.

The Associated Press says voters approve Amendment 2, expanding access to medical marijuana. 

Florida 8:10 p.m.

Incumbent Marco Rubio was declared winner of the U.S. Senate seat over Patrick Murphy.

Florida - 8 p.m.

Polls closed across the state. Experts were not yet able to call races in the state.

Pinellas County - 7:50 p.m. 

The Vinoy Renaissance, where David Jolly set up his election night headquarters was filling up just before 8 p.m., when the last polls close in Florida. Rep. David jolly spent his last hours out in the community, holding campaign signs, hoping to secure those last few votes to keep his U.S. House seat in Florida’s 13th District. He has been in office two and a half years.

Bay Area - 7 p.m.

Polls closed across the Tampa Bay Area at 7 p.m. with only a few minor reports of voting issues at polling places throughout the day. 

Pinellas County - 6 p.m.

Charlie Crist and Representative David Jolly holding campaign parties Tuesday evening at hotels on St. Pete Beach. Crist's campaign set up camp at the Don CeSar and Jolly's at the Vinoy Renaissance. As voting entered the last hour in Florida, Crist held a slight lead over Jolly.

Hillsborough County - 3 p.m. 

The Supervisor of Elections for Hillsborough County said a second ballot scanner was being sent to Precinct 701 after reports of long waits due to only one scanning machine. Gerri Kramer with the elections office said the precinct was split in half before the election and they anticipated a lower turnout at the location, but that was not the case. 

Hillsborough County - 2 p.m.

Voters went to the polls in one of the most watched counties in the nation. Historically, as Hillsborough County goes, so goes the nation in presidential elections.

"I feel very strongly about this election, more than I've ever felt," said Teresa Obispo after voting for Hillary Clinton at her precinct in Tampa's Seminole Heights neighborhood.

Her husband, Ed Coker agrees the election is critical, but his vote is different.  "Donald Trump," he said. "My wife, we have a difference of opinion."

Scattered problems were reported with ballots getting jammed in the scanners that voters are asked to slide their ballots into near the end of the voting process. Elections officials said ballots that became jammed will be counted manually. They didn't have the number of ballots affected, but said it's a relatively few.

Hillsborough County - 12:45 p.m.

Voters in Precinct 701 - Fishhawk Ranch reporter there was only one working scanner to tally votes at the location. Voters said lines were "wrapped around the building," and there was a wait of at least an hour to vote. 

Sarasota County - 11 a.m. 

Sarasota County predicts 2016 will bring one of the largest voter turn outs ever, expecting about 80-percent of voters to make their voices heard today.

Sarasota Supervisor of Elections, Kathy Dent said early voting numbers came in at about 80,000. Around 193,000 people vote in total and just before 11 a.m. Tuesday, around 63-perfect of voters had already cast ballots.

Sarasota County officials will begin opening vote my mail ballots at 3 p.m. and votes from polling locations will then filter just after polling locations close.

Manatee County - 11 a.m.

In Manatee County, around 62-percent of voters had cast ballots around 11 a.m., with 27,000 people voting already. The county’s early voting numbers came in just around 48,000.

Pasco County - 10:20 a.m. 

Pasco County election officials said there had been no issues reported at any polling locations, with more than 37,000 votes counted so far. That's a turnout approaching 54 percent as of 10:30 a.m. Some wait times were reported at many polling places.

Hillsborough County - 8:30 a.m. 

HART offers free rides to the polls for those who have voter information cards. HART said free rides will be offered throughout the day on Tuesday, Nov. 8, on any HART bus by showing a valid voter information card upon boarding.
