RUSKIN (FOX 13) - Deputies say a Ruskin man hopped in his truck and fled from his angry girlfriend straight to the safety of Hillsborough County deputies – even though he knew he’d probably be arrested.
It was back on Sunday afternoon when, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says, a call came in about two vehicles driving recklessly in the Sun City area. Moments later, a deputy at the District IV headquarters on 33rd Street SE saw two pickup trucks zoom into the parking lot.
The man in the first truck hopped out, begging for help and yelling, “She’s following me!” That’s when a woman hopped out of the second pickup truck and tried to get into the first vehicle.
Deputies intervened, arresting Diana Elizabeth Padilla. Detectives say her Dodge Dakota and her boyfriend’s GMC Sierra were both damaged from when she rammed his truck during the chase.
The 25-year-old was charged with aggravated battery using a deadly weapon.
According to deputies, the fleeing boyfriend – identified as Jose Guadalupe Rodriguez – said the whole thing started when Padilla got angry at him because she suspected he was seeing another woman.
Rodriguez retreated to the sheriff’s office even though he didn’t have a valid driver’s license. He was indeed charged with driving without a license.
