A woman arrested for drowning her twin toddlers told police she did it because, "nobody loved them."

In newly released court documents, 22-year-old Mireya Alejandra Lopez said she drowned the boys because "nobody loved them and nobody loved her."

Avondale police arrested her following the death of twin toddlers, who were found dead Sunday afternoon.

Sergeant Brandon Busse says that Lopez told police that she intentionally drowned her twin boys in a bathtub.

The twin boys were just 2-years-old, according to Busse.

Lopez also told police that she attempted to drown her step-sister, but she was stopped by a family member.

That child did not suffer any injuries, according to Busse.

Police say Lopez is being charged with two counts of homicide and one count of attempted homicide.

On Sunday, Avondale fire crews responded to a home in the 11000 block of West Yuma Street, near Buckeye and Avondale Roads, around 12:30 p.m., and discovered the two toddlers unresponsive on a bed in the home.

Paramedics tried to revive the boys, but they were taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing by police.
