Attempted murder suspect flees on lawn mower after shooting incident
SANFORD, N.C. - A North Carolina man accused of attempted murder was arrested after allegedly firing a shotgun inside a home and fleeing the scene on a riding lawn mower.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office reported that on April 17, deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at 72 Stone Hill Lane in Sanford, North Carolina, where an individual was allegedly firing a shotgun at people inside a residence.
The suspect, identified as Woodrow Allen Smith, fled the scene on a riding lawn mower while still in possession of the firearm. He was last seen traveling east toward a nearby storage building. Deputies later located the mower in that area and initiated a search for him.
Smith, 62, of Sanford, was subsequently taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, discharging a firearm into occupied property, possession of a firearm by a felon, and simple assault. He appeared before a Lee County magistrate and was ordered held at the Lee County Jail without bond.
