St. Pete suspect identified in downtown shooting that left 7 injured, search continues: Investigators

More than two weeks after the downtown St. Petersburg shooting that left seven people injured, officers said they've identified the suspect. 

The St. Pete Police Department said Deronke Rashad Barron, 20, was the suspect investigators released pictures of after the shooting, and now, they are searching for him. Authorities said he was seen wearing a blue and white jersey the night of the shooting.

Barron and a group of men got into a fight on the sidewalk on 3rd Street North near Central Avenue at around 12:45 a.m. on October 7, according to St. Pete police.

Shots were fired not long after the fight, and three men suffered non-life-threatening injuries to their legs, detectives said. Two men and two women also had other minor injuries. 

SPPD spokeswoman Yolanda Fernandez said downtown St. Pete is a popular place, especially on the weekends, bringing in huge crowds and events. She said they've never had anything happen like this. 

"We had someone who carelessly fired a gun in a very crowded area," Fernandez said. "We had three people who were injured. Four others had minor injuries. But it could have been it could have been much worse."
