Study: Tampa makes top 10 cities with worst income inequality

TAMPA (FOX 13) - A new study said the city of Tampa ranks 8 in the country for having the worst income inequality.

According to the study by Bloomberg, among the largest U.S. cities, Tampa's gap between the rich and poor is only slightly better than Los Angeles.

A FOX 13 analysis of tax records shows that in zip codes which cover Bayshore Boulevard, 33606 and 33629, 43 percent of residents have incomes above $75,000.

In a zipcode that contains a large swath of east Tampa, only five percent of residents make more than $75,000.

Bloomberg said the city with the worst inequality is New Orleans, followed by Atlanta and Cincinnati.

The city of Miami is number 7 on the list.
