Teen with ankle monitor spotted on surveillance stealing packages in Bradenton neighborhood: Police

A pair of thieves swiped several packages from a Bradenton neighborhood, and they were caught on Ring doorbell footage. One of the suspects was caught after police noticed a distinctive clue in the video.

It happened off of Sand Gables Trail in Bradenton's Glen Creek Community.

"It’s amazing how people take advantage of those families," said David Hamon, a neighbor in the community.

Hamon has lived in the neighborhood for a year and called their actions flat out wrong.

"Probably they are gifts for their kids or family members, so that’s very disappointing to see this happening in this neighborhood," said Hamon.

After receiving footage from two different homes, the Bradenton Police Department said they noticed one of them wearing an ankle monitor.

Officers were able to come up with a name associated with the ankle monitor, placing a 14-year-old girl at the scene of the crime. The thieves were both juveniles and charges have since been filed

"It’s disturbing to obviously know someone has not learned from previous mistakes and is continuing to commit crimes," said Meredith Censullo with BPD.

However, thieves caught can now face a third-degree felony for stealing any item worth more than $40 from a home under a new law.

"We need people to understand that this isn’t funny," Censullo said. "This is a serious crime. A felony on your record will carry you throughout your entire life."
