A little more than a week after Hurricane Helene’s storm surge flooded communities across the Bay Area a tropical system is expected to bring heavy rains to water-logged neighborhoods and sandbag sites are starting to open.

Bradenton Beach to reopen Thursday at 8 a.m.

Bradenton Beach will finally reopen to its residents Thursday at 8 a.m., nearly a week after Hurricane Helene wreaked havoc on the beachfront community.

Improvements ongoing to Bradenton's water reclamation facility

The City of Bradenton's wastewater treatment system usually processes five to seven million gallons per day. The recent heavy rains, however, pushed that up to 27 million gallons, which overwhelmed the system and caused partially treated wastewater to be discharged into the Manatee River.
