TPD investigating after officer crashes car while responding to hit-and-run collision

A Tampa police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries Saturday after crashing into another vehicle while in route to a hit-and-run crash.

Police say around 1:30 p.m., the officer was responding to a report of a hit-and-run crash that left a victim trapped inside an overturned vehicle.

The officer, who TPD says was traveling in a marked vehicle with lights and sirens on, struck the back right quarter of a Nissan Sentra as they crossed 29th St. at Martin Luther King Blvd.

The officer and the driver of the Sentra were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation.
