Firefighters put out "suspicious" house fire Friday morning house fire in Largo discover the bodies of two women inside.  Investigators are calling the blaze suspicious, and are working to piece together what happened.

“There was a real loud thump,” said John Bates.

Folks in the Avalon Mobile Home Park woke up Friday morning to flames shooting from their neighbor’s house.

“Twelve to 14-feet-high,” Bates said.

Bates lives right next door.  He tells us he called 911 after seeing fire burn through the wall.

“I could see in and the whole interior was on fire, and unfortunately that was the bedroom area of that house,” Bates said.

He ran over and started banging on the front door.  At least two other neighbors rushed to help, using tools to try to pop the lock and get inside.

“Eventually was able to pry the door open, even before the fire department got there,” said Bates.  “But once we got the door open, unfortunately, the smoke and the flames had entirely engulfed the inside, we couldn’t go in.”

An accelerant-sniffing K9 was brought in to try and pinpoint if anything was used to spark the flames.

“The circumstances of where the bodies were located and the conditions would lead us to believe that there was possibly foul play,” said Lt. Randall Chaney with the Largo Police Department.

However, Chaney says people who live in the area are not in danger.

So far, the women haven’t been identified, but neighbors said the homeowner was very pleasant and willing to help others.

“Very friendly, always had a smile on her face,” Bates said. “She had a friend living with her, by the way, and I never got to meet her.”

The State Fire Marshall is assisting. Police officials say because of the extensive fire damage, their investigation will likely be a long process.
