Authorities have located the wreckage of a small plane that had disappeared from radar in rural Georgia.

The Cessna 441 took off from the Lakeland Linder Regional Airport on Monday, officials said. Air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft in southern Georgia.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with anyone that was on the aircraft," said Lakeland Linder Airport director Gene Conrad.

The Thomas County Sheriff's Office said the wreckage was found near the community of Climax. Two people on board the plane were killed.

The cause of the plane crash remains under investigation and the Federal Aviation Administration has been notified.
