Two killed in motorcycle crash in north Hillsborough County

A deadly motorcycle crash killed two people north of Citrus Park on Sunday morning, and it was a passerby who found them.

Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's office shut down Gunn Highway between Racetrack Road and Copeland Road while they processed the scene.

"A passerby, a doctor actually, on his way to work was driving down this roadway and spotted the motorcycle on the side of the road," said Amanda Granit with HCSO. "He tried to do what he could but unfortunately it was just too late for both of those people. They were deceased at the scene when the doctor arrived."

From their initial investigation, deputies believe the two took the curve too fast, hit a sign and skidded off the road.

The doctor who found them called 9-1-1 around 6 a.m., but investigators are still trying to figure out how long the two had been laying in the dark brush.

"We're kind of trying to put all of that together and figure out exactly when the crash may have happened and the time frame between when the doctor actually found them," said Granit.

The sheriff's office says they will release the names of two deceased riders when next of kin has been notified.
