Venice man arrested in hit-and-run death of 19-year-old
VENICE (FOX 13) - An arrest has been made in the deadly hit-and-run crash of a Venice man.
Florida Highway Patrol said on Monday, they felt confident they knew the type of suspect vehicle involved in the crash. By Thursday, they arrested 32-year-old Joshua McNamara in the death of 19-year-old Zachary O’Bry.
On Sunday, around 11:30 p.m., Zachary crossed U.S. Highway 41 at Short Drive in Venice, to head to a nearby store when a drive hit him and took off. He was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he passed away, troopers said.
McNamara’s vehicle, a 2004 Ford Explorer, was impounded after troopers found it parked behind his Venice home.
His mom, left heartbroken, spoke to FOX 13 saying her son was “full of life and love.”
"He led by example,” Roberta O’Bry explained, “and just wanted the best for everybody.”
McNamara is facing charges including leaving the scene of a deadly crash and tampering with evidence.
