Wallenda family lion tamer, Tammy Wallenda dies at 53 in Sarasota
SARASOTA (FOX 13) - The Wallenda family is known far and wide for their circus performances - from high-wire stunts to taming lions.
Blake Wallenda confirmed Friday his mother, famed lion tamer Tammy Wallenda passed away at the age of 53 at her home in Sarasota.
"She had a vibrant energy to her and there was never a dull moment when she was around," Blake told FOX 13 News Friday.
He also wrote a tribute to his mother on Facebook after her passing.
"We all loved my mother very much, I'm sure her spirit will live on through the stories and great memories that she has left us with," Blake wrote.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday at Big Cat Habitat at 6 p.m. in Sarasota.
Tammy Wallenda was the granddaughter of Karl Wallenda, who founded The Flying Wallendas. She was the aunt of the famous daredevil, Nik Wallenda.
