STUTTGART, Ark. (FOX 13) - A gas pump fire is believed to have started from a cigarette.
A fire sparked at a gas station in Stuttgart, Arkansas, where surveillance video showed the pump bursting into flames. The fire rapidly moves from the car straight to the pump.
Two individuals were also seen jumping out of harm’s way and attempting to put the fire out themselves. The car is driven away and the flames were quickly put out.
“I see those kinds of videos a lot but never this close to home,” said Charles Anderson who sells fire extinguishers. “Any kind of spark can set off a fire like that.”
Stuttgart Fire Chief Jimmy Cason said there are safety guidelines to follow when pumping gas, like not smoking or using a lighter. With colder months ahead, the fire department also wants to remind people to turn off their cars before getting out and pumping gas.
