With billowing sails, clipper cruises into Tampa

Just in time for Gasparilla, an historic replica tall ship sailed into town Wednesday morning.

The 'Lynx' docked at the Tampa Convention Center after a cruising into the bay under full sail. The clipper is here to help celebrate the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and the 'Star-Spangled Banner.'

The 122-foot-long ship is a replica of the original lynx, which was a privateer during the war of 1812. Schooners like the Lynx were the first ships to defend the young American nation by evading the British naval fleet and protecting our ports.

Now, you can tour the ship or go on a short trip. The Lynx will be in Tampa until the 22nd, then sail to St. Pete and stay there for several weeks.
