Zoo's baby hippo gets a name

A rare gift to the Tampa community finally has a name.

A rare pygmy hippo was born at Lowry Park Zoo on December 1.  The zoo held a contest to name the ‘little’ girl.  The winning name was announced today:  Holly Berry.

Zoo officials say more than 1,000 names were submitted in the contest. They then took the names and put them in a hat. The name was then drawn out.

"We did have a few names that were submitted over and over again. Holly definitely was one of those names we saw a lot of people voting for, so we weren't surprised when that name came out,” curator Chris Massaro offered.

Holly weighs about 35 pounds and is still nursing.

With less than 40 pygmy hippos in the species survival program, zoo officials say this newborn is a rare gift.
