Fried bacon steals the show

Polish, German, Hungarian, Italian – whatever type of sausage you want to throw on the grill, Aniko Rakoczi can make it. Just in time for Father’s Day, Charley stopped by the First Quality Sausage House in Safety Harbor to try his hand at sausage-making.

“So I have to put this casing on the doohickey that shoots out the meat here,” he chuckled as he got to work Friday morning.

First Quality Sausage House has been on 9th Avenue N since 1976.  In addition to fresh sausage, they offer ready-made European meals. But they are most famous for their fried bacon.

“We have to pick out the best piece from the pig bellies and the most meaty one, and then I salt it a little bit, and fry it. Fry it the old fashioned way – its own fat,” Rakoczi explained.
