'Heart of the Sea' exhibit dedicated to marine conservation efforts

TAMPA (FOX 13) - A new exhibit is coming to the Florida Aquarium, dedicated to saving marine life.

It’s called “Heart of the Sea,” which opens October 6. It showcases many Florida native animal species, along with the aquariums conservation efforts in saving sea turtles, coral reefs and sharks. Inside the 100,000-gallon tank, you can find underwater coral trees. The Florida Aquarium has been growing reefs to restore those damaged in the Florida Keys.

There will also be an opportunity to dive alongside a Kemp’s ridley sea turtle and loggerhead sea turtle. The aquarium said they will work on helping those who are not certified to dive to enter the wate. There will also be a nurse shark, bonnethead sharks, and hundreds of fish. Underwater cameras have been installed for guests to see all sorts of angles inside the tank.

This year, the Florida Aquarium partnered with Coppertail Brewing Company to create three beers dedicated to conservation efforts. The first two, Coral Haze and Sea Turtle Sour, were released. The third is expected to focus on shark conservation.
