19 manatees freed after being stuck in drain
Thanks to an overnight rescue effort, 19 manatees have been released after being trapped in a Central Florida storm drain.
Three agencies- the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Sea World and Satellite Beach Fire and Rescue -joined forces to free the animals.
Apparently the storm drain covers were removed, and that's how the manatees were able to get into the area.
Nearby residents said they were used to seeing the manatees in the water, so when they noticed they had been missing for a couple of days, they decided to contact authorities.
It's a good thing they did. The manatees, despite having a few scratches, are expected to be just fine since they've been freed from the drain.
