TAMPA (FOX 13) - Several crews were called to the scene of a massive fire that broke out at a local apartment complex early Thursday morning.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue crews responded to the Captiva Club Apartments in the 4400 block of Kelly Road, near Memorial Highway, around 5:45 a.m.
Initial reports said no residents had been evacuated at that time, but Hillsborough County Sheriff's Major Chad Chronister later reported that all residents made it out safely.
The view from SkyFox early on showed heavy flames shooting through the roof of the building, and plumes of smoke in the surrounding sky.
A Hillsborough County spokesperson said the flames had spread through eight units on the top floor of one of the buildings. Firefighters took a defensive approach, and some battled the flames, while others soaked the units on the bottom floor to prevent them from catching fire.
In all, at least 12 units were impacted.
Officials have not yet said what caused the fire, however Major Chronister reported that it originated on one of the unit's balconies.
FOX 13 has a crew on scene and will continue with updates as they become available.
