3 dead, charges pending after Florida Turnpike crash
TAVARES, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say charges are pending after a crash on Florida's Turnpike killed a Georgia couple and their year-old daughter.
The victims were traveling in a Nissan Maxima that overturned and caught fire after being struck by an SUV as they drove through Lake County early Sunday. Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Kim Montes said the bodies were so badly burned that dental records were needed to identify them.
The victims were identified Monday as a family from Moultrie, Georgia: 23-year-old Thomas Garza, who was driving, 20-year-old Lillian Luna and the couple's 1-year-old daughter, Brianna Garza.
Montes says the SUV's driver had his license suspended Sept. 1. The SUV also overturned and caught fire, and Montes said the driver was hospitalized with minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
