50th annual International Miniature Art Exhibition at Creative Pinellas in Largo
LARGO, Fla. - It's a big deal for creators of miniature art. In fact, there was no shortage of submissions for the exhibit currently on display at Creative Pinellas in Largo.
The 50th Annual International Miniature Art Exhibition is showing until February 9th.
Senior Director of Arts and Cultural Programing, Beth Gelman explained, "This is the best 600 (artworks) by 135 of the artists from around the world."

The backstory:
A display of 600 pieces would normally take up all of their gallery space, however, this exhibit is defined not by its diminutive size, but by its incredible detail.
"What's amazing here is the spectrum of subject matter and the type of media even used," said Gelman, "There is a skill that any artist needs, but to work in miniature... there is another skill that's layered on that, the detail."

While the artwork is tiny in height and width, the skill is large and out there for all to see.
But to see it, you might need a little help.
Gelman said, "You can walk through the gallery (and) there are magnifying glasses, so, not only can you look at it in miniature, but you can look and see the tiny little brush strokes. When you take the magnifying glass, and you lean in, you will see brush stroke detail of what you're used to seeing in a larger piece."

Twelve paintings take up the space where one traditional-sized painting would hand. Each compact piece is packed into a case of other petite paintings for this show.
They are on display now until February 9th at Creative Pinellas in Largo.
