Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez were in Tampa Tuesday supporting the Boys and Girls Clubs.

“Because of the boys and girls club I am where I am today Jennifer is where she is today,” Rodriguez told reporters.

“Our kids know who he is our families know who he is he's the epitome of what we hope to do with our young people,” said Boys and Girls Clubs of Tampa Bay CEO Chris Letsos.

Rodriguez shared his story as the guest speaker at the Great Future’s breakfast at Amalie Arena, benefiting the club.  He was accompanied by Lopez who snapped several photos during the event.

“It is not just donating and money its time and effort and everything counts,” he said.

In October, the Boys and Girls Club broke ground on its newest club in Temple Terrace.

“When you grow strong smarter children you’re going to have a stronger safer community and we've seen that,” said Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister.

Following his comments, Rodriguez was gifted a handmade drawing by some local club members.  Perhaps one day they’ll leave a legacy as big as his.

“It’s pretty symbolic that a man and a woman boy and girl come out it's pretty awesome,” he said.
