Alleged Confederate flag theft video goes viral

A recent video posted to Facebook showing the alleged theft of a Confederate flag has gone viral.

This video was uploaded to Facebook on Saturday by Jamari Williams.  His page lists him as the CEO of "Blowin' Bandz Entertainment," a rap group out of Sarasota.

The video has been viewed nearly 4 million times.

It includes the hashtag #NOFLAGGINCHALLENGE, which appears to be an attempt to create a social media movement to steal or destroy people's Confederate flags.

Sarasota County deputies are looking into the apparent theft, but haven't made any arrests.  Why not?

"At this point we don't know a crime occurred. It could be a totally staged video where they put up the flag and made it look like they're stealing a flag.  We have no victims so at this point there's nothing further to investigate," said Wendy Rose, spokesperson for the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Officials aren't even sure where the video was shot, however, they say what is for sure is the danger a movement like this can create.

"If you walk on someone's property they and have a confederate flag hanging, they may want to defend their home. You don't know what you're going to encourage," said Rose.

Real or not,  the video has continued to stir an already-boiling pot.

FOX 13 attempted to reach out to the person who uploaded the video, but he didn't reply.
