Avon Park teacher accused of having sexual relationship with student
AVON PARK (FOX 13) - An Avon Park Middle School teacher has been accused of having a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old student.
Highlands County Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 44-year-old ESE teacher, Kevin Dewberry. He was arrested on Tuesday and faces four counts of lewd and lascivious behavior.
According to detectives, school staff were notified of the alleged incident on February 23 and reported it to the agency.
The school district released a statement, but there is no word on the current employment status for Dewberry.
School administration, district administration, and law enforcement took immediate action and we are fully cooperating with the Highlands County Sheriff’s Office as they investigate. No further comments will be made as this is an ongoing investigation, however we felt it necessary to make a statement out of respect for full transparency and to affirm that we are committed to providing a safe learning environment in all Highlands County schools.
