Barricaded Sarasota man found dead by SWAT
SARASOTA (FOX 13) - A man who told deputies he "was not going back to jail" before barricading himself inside his home has died.
Deputies were working to peacefully end the standoff at the home on Silk Oak Drive Tuesday.
It started around 11:30 a.m. when deputies tried to serve outstanding warrants to the man at his home. When they went to the door, a woman came out and told the deputies the man was inside, had a firearm and said he "was not going back to jail."
Deputies managed to talk to him, but said he was uncooperative. He refused to come out, so they secured the scene and called Sarasota County Sheriff's Office SWAT officers.
After more than six hours, officers said SCSO SWAT went into the home where they said they found the man dead. Officers were not able to say how the man died.
Detectives were working to identify the man an notify his family.
