Burglary suspect slams into innocent bystander while speeding away from crime scene: TPD

An innocent bystander and a burglary suspect were hospitalized following a crash on Monday morning.

What we know:

Shortly before 7 a.m., Tampa police officers went to 3222 N. 40th St. to investigate a reported burglary in progress.

Upon arrival, police said the suspect sped away from the scene without headlights.

Officers said they lost sight of the vehicle but continued to circulate the area.

According to the Tampa Police Department, moments later, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into a citizen’s vehicle at N. 34th St. and E. 18th Ave.

The suspect was taken to an area hospital as a trauma alert.

He has since been released and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail.

Police say the citizen who was driving the other vehicle was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The intersection of N. 34th St. and E. 18th Ave. was closed while police investigated, but has since reopened. 

What we don't know:

Tampa police have not said what charges the burglary suspect will face nor have they released the suspect’s identity.
