DAVEPORT (FOX 13) - Two Polk County businesses that sell sweets were recently robbed at gunpoint, authorities said.
On Tuesday night, two masked men burst into Webb's Candy Factory and a Dunkin' Donuts store. Both businesses sit side-by-side in the same building off US 27.
"I can't think of anything more cowardly than putting a gun in the face of an innocent person," said R.J. Webb, the manager at Webb's Candy Factory. "It makes sick to my stomach."
One suspect pointed a gun at the head of a Dunkin Donuts employee and demanded cash, while a second intruder did the same thing to an employee at Webb's.
When Braydon Evans saw his fellow employee at Webb's in danger, he said he was terrified.
"I didn't know what to do," he said. "I didn't know what would escalate the situation, what would de-escalate it. I had no idea."
Evans said he ran to a back room where a woman was making candy. He grabbed her and they ran outside, before calling 911 and hiding in the bushes.
Police said both men took off and jumped into a get-away vehicle. It is described as a green Ford Expedition with a lighter color on the bottom.
Webb's has been in business for more than 80 years and this is the first time it has ever been robbed.
