Child injured in hit-and-run in Clearwater

A 7-year-old boy was taken to the hospital after being hit by a vehicle that fled the scene Tuesday.

It happened at Myrtle Avenue S and Druid Road Tuesday evening. Officials in Clearwater say the vehicle left after the boy was hit.

Clearwater public safety officials said the 7-year-old was riding his bike with two other friends when they tried to cross the road in the crosswalk.

It appears the car stopped, but then left the scene, heading northbound on Myrtle Ave.

The car was described as a four-door grey or charcoal sedan that possibly had tinted windows.

The boy appeared to have non-life threatening injuries.
