Clearwater police remember crossing guard

Police remembered one of their own who made a career out of keeping people safe. Officers honored the life and service of Crossing Guard Doug Carey Friday. The day marked the second anniversary since his death.

On May 20, 2014, a driver ran a red light, struck another car, and hit Carey at the intersection of Belcher Road and Gulf to Bay Boulevard.

His wife was among those who attended the Friday wreath laying event, one of two scheduled for the morning. Officers hung another wreath at Cleveland Street and Corona Avenue, one of Carey's crossing guard assignments before his death.
