Cop dad delivers his baby daughter on the side of a road
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Imagine playing the role of doting dad, happy husband and doctor on top of your day job as a police officer.
Salt Lake City Police Officer Travis Clark, from the Unified Police Department, delivered his daughter on the side of a road, minutes after her mom’s contractions started.
The original plan was for fire and rescue to meet up with the couple and drive mom, Paige, to the hospital. “In the beginning, I was like NO! That is not my plan, I want to go to the hospital and then I was like, OK, I just didn’t know what to do. I am so glad that my husband was there.” said Clark's wife Paige.
Officer Clark ran around the car and helped deliver the baby. “I kind of caught the baby, flipped her over and got her to start breathing.”
Baby Bexleigh weighed in at 6 pounds, 7 ounces. Clark knows how to deal with pressure situations. “We train under high stress, it is one of those things where training kicked in and it was natural.”
“Everything happened so fast, it didn’t really hit me until I was driving behind the ambulance. That’s when I started to get emotional, I was like holy cow that just happened!”
“For everything that I have been through my entire life, this has been the craziest, scariest and coolest thing I have ever been a part of.”
