Delta providing nonstop flights from Tampa to Amsterdam

Eight short years ago, Tampa's international airport only offered one European flight.

Since 2011, growth at the airport has been seemingly nonstop. Wednesday, TIA's international footprint expanded.

Tampa International Airport officials announced a new nonstop flight to Amsterdam, bringing TIA's European flight offerings to five.

TIA spokesperson Emily Nipps says the airport has added 44 combined domestic and international routes in the last two years.

Delta will begin offering nonstop flights in May 2019. Officials said Amsterdam is one of their top six international targets.

Flights can be booked through Delta's website

About 20 million passengers fly out of TIA each year, which has the potential to increase with every new flight announcement.

An added bonus will be the business travel benefits.

"When you look at the opportunities to connect to over 80 destinations in Europe, to the Middle East, and destination to Africa, that's what this flight will provide," explained Delta's Director of Global Sales David Stratchko.

The airport said the new destination could mean about 1,000 new jobs for the Bay Area, as well.
