Detectives make arrest in Venice shooting

Shelby Gibson

Detectives in Sarasota County have arrested a North Port woman they say is connected with a shooting that happened Friday night in Venice.

According to deputies, 38-year-old Shelby Gibson was at the home on Colonial Drive where the victim, James J. Reilly, was shot during an attempted robbery.   Reilly, who survived the shooting, was able to describe the series of events including how he was shot. Using this information along with evidence inside his home, detectives identified Gibson as the woman who came to his home with two other men, in an attempt to rob him.

Detectives arrested Gibson on Saturday and she's being held in jail on $300,000 bond.

Authorities are still searching for the other two men involved in the shooting. One is described as a black male and the other, as a white male. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Criminal Investigations at 861.4900 or Crime Stoppers of Sarasota County at 366.TIPS.
