Dishwasher ensures 500 foster kids have toys at Christmas

For 28 years, Delwyn Collins has been buying toys for foster kids in Florida. This year he is bringing presents to more than 500. He works as a dishwasher at Tampa General Hospital, and worked overtime to pay for the gifts he bought.

"Just to make kids happy, that's what it is all about," he told FOX 13.

It all starts when children place their wish lists on the hospital’s Christmas tree. Next, he organizes the hospital staff to sponsor toys and make those wishes come true.

“I am grateful for these people to take time from their families to help make these kids’ Christmas,” Collins said.

And there’s no stopping Collins from spreading his Christmas cheer. He’s overcome learning disabilities, is legally blind, and last year suffered a heart attack. But every year, this Santa and his helpers come through for the kids.

"To me, I'm just like an average person, just somebody that just likes to lend a hand,” Collins said.” My mother worked her heart out to make sure we had a Christmas, no matter what. You’ve got the willpower to do it, you do it. You know? You do it out of your heart.”
