Polk County investigators are asking for your help to put a bite out of a crime - and a small dog could lead to the suspects.

Polk County Sheriff's Office deputies say two burglars broke into Texas Pipe Supply on Ethyl Avenue in the middle of the night. With them, they brought a dog, presumably theirs.

“There is no doubt, the brains of the operation is the dog,” commented Polk Sheriff Grady Judd to FOX 13. “He looked cool, calm, and collected. I don’t think this is his first burglary.”

Company spokesman Glenn Sims says the intruders broke in through a back door.

Surveillance video shows them wandering around, with the dog casually trotting after them.

Investigators say the thieves stole an expensive chainsaw.

“That’s it,” said Sims.

Despite the small haul, Judd says the thieves could be charged with theft and burglary.

Tongue-in-cheek, he added, “We hope the dog turns state’s evidence so we can let him go.”

If you know anything about the crime or the possible owner orf the dog, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office would like to hear from you.
