Dolphin calf freed from debris off Dunedin

DUNEDIN (FOX 13) - A young dolphin is recovering after being freed from a tangle of fishing line.

The scene played out Thursday morning in the Gulf of Mexico not far from Dunedin, according to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration. 

NOAA tweeted out a sequence of photos showing the dolphin calf before and after the rescue.

A team of marine biologists and veterinarians helped free the dolphin while the calf's mother swam nearby. The calf was released back into the wild with no injuries.

The agency maintains a marine debris program that works to "prevent and reduce marine debris in the Gulf of Mexico through education, research, removal, and response to large debris events," according to their website.
