Driver comes forward in deadly hit and run
TAMPA (FOX 13) - Hillsborough County deputies say the driver in a deadly hit-and-run crash in Town 'N' Country has come forward.
The driver, 28-year-old Jennifer Race of Tampa, made arrangements with her attorney to turn herself in at the Orient Road Jail Sunday.
The crash happened shortly before 4:00 p.m. on October 2nd at Sheldon Road and Wood Lake Boulevard. Authorities say the suspect's car, a 2015 Cadillac SRX, was stolen and left at the scene.
Deputies released surveillance video from a nearby Radiant gas station showing Race, who apparently hitched a ride away from the scene.
Deputies say the driver Race hit was 83-year-old Lawrence Lockhart of Tampa. Emergency crews rushed him to the hospital, but he did not survive.
Race is facing charges of leaving the scene of a crash involving a death and being a habitual traffic offender.
