Monday did not get off to a very good start for some drivers in Sarasota.  A truck wound up in the waters of Sarasota Bay, fouling traffic.

Sarasota police say the box truck went off the Coon Key Bridge and wound up on its side in the water.  The driver got out safely but was taken to the hospital.

Westbound traffic along the John Ringling Causeway was moving slowly due to the scene.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the accident.

Coon Key Bridge was closed to traffic around 2 p.m. so crews could remove the box truck from the water.  It was reopened just before 6:30 p.m.

The Sarasota Police Department says the 63-year-old male driver will be cited.
