A fatal motorcycle accident early Friday morning halted traffic at the junction of I-4 and I-275 in Downtown Tampa.

According to Florida Highway patrol, 44-year-old Leonel Pena was riding his Suzuki motorcycle on westbound I-4 at a high speed when he "failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway."

Pena's vehicle slammed into the guardrail, throwing his body roughly 20 feet from the motorcycle.

Pena died on the scene.

FHP reports that the crash was not alcohol related.

Lanes have been reopened, but traffic in the area will continue to be affected throughout the morning.
