FHP concerned after recent cases of reckless teen driving
PINELLAS PARK (FOX 13) - It's the kind of thing you'd expect from the Fast and the Furious franchise, but video of a 'donut' stunt, taken in Pinellas Park, is far from Hollywood.
They call this kind of thing a 'Freeway Takeover.' The sheer number of these types of clips online will make your head spin.
The incident happened recently on 66th Street North and 121st Avenue. Police say it was not the only location where the car was seen causing problems. Now, Pinellas Park Police are looking for the driver, as well as three passengers - all young males.
"Extremely dangerous. These young kids are looking to Facebook and social media as their guide and this is one of those instances where the results could be dire," said Lt. Adam Geissenberger, with the Pinellas Park Police.
Another local case proved that theory. Early Monday morning, a 27-year-old driver went head on into a tree, apparently while drag racing on Ulmerton Road. His condition is critical.
"Until these kids understand that, 'this is not something my youthful indiscretion will get me out of,' then we're not getting anywhere," Geissenberger said.
If found, the driver in that video is facing reckless driving charges. It is believed the car is a Pontiac GTO.
