Fiery Mulberry crash kills one, closes intersection for hours

MULBERRY (FOX 13) - One person is dead following a crash on a Mulberry road early Thursday morning.

Polk County deputies said a sedan collided with a tractor-trailer near State Road 37 and Pinecrest Road causing the vehicle to catch fire. The crash occurred just after 1 a.m., shutting down the intersection.

Investigators said one person in the vehicle passed away following the crash. The victim’s identity has not been released. One other person was transported with minor injuries to Lakeland Regional Health Center. Diesel and hydraulic fuel spilled as a result of the crash.

Officials said the intersection may be closed until 9 a.m.
