For her, this Thai spot is spicy, sweet, and sentimental

Food is involved in nearly every major life event. And for one couple in Bradenton, that food comes from a specific restaurant. They love the place so much that they invited our Chip Brewster and his Bay Area Best segment to meet for a meal.

Thai Wasabi in Bradenton has, of course, Thai classics, wasabi, and sushi. But they also have the appreciation of FOX 13 viewer Wendy Dixon, who’s been eating there for over a decade.

“This is the place where we celebrate, where we share everything, all kinds of memories at this restaurant,” she explained.

Wendy says she believes the food is so good because it’s all based on original family recipes, including the homemade egg rolls.

“You could have ordered me a lunch of egg rolls,” Chip offered before moving onto the ‘Ooh La La' sushi roll that Wendy ordered for him.

“Tuna, tempura shrimp, avocado, mayo; whole roll deep-fried. Topped with eel sauce, spicy mayo, secret sauce; red, black, and smelt roe, scallions, and sesame seeds,” Chip continued. “There’s so much going on. I’m just getting all the flavors at one time.”

From Chip’s sushi roll to Wendy’s panang curry with crispy duck, there is plenty of variety at Thai Wasabi.  And it will always be a special place for Wendy.

“We were looking for a place to celebrate our anniversary a little over 10 years ago. This place popped up and it just opened right before our anniversary. It’s close to our home,” she added. “It’s like we celebrate our anniversaries together: the anniversary of our restaurant with our wedding anniversary.”
