Forecast: Heavy rain, severe storms likely on Thursday

Strong storms and lots of rain could cause flooding and other problems in the Bay Area on Thursday. Forecasters say a cold front passing through will bring plenty of rain and a chance of severe weather.

“Short of a tropical system, Thursday and Friday will be as nasty as it gets here,” FOX 13 chief meteorologist Paul Dellegatto warned.  “In essence, a nor'easter in the southeast.”

Clouds will thicken during the day Wednesday as rain chances increase.  Then Thursday, much of the Bay Area could see 2 to 3 inches of rain or more.  High winds will also increase the chance of coastal flooding.

The greatest likelihood of severe weather Thursday will be from Tampa Bay down to South Florida.

Friday, the rain will move off but it will still be a raw day with temperatures in the low 60s and wind gusts of 40 to 45 mph in the Bay Area.

Winds will gradually diminish through the weekend.
