Former chef becomes wood sculptor, displays art

TAMPA (FOX 13) - From carving meats to carving wood - Dave Watson went from being a chef to a chainsaw artist.

His beautiful works of art are on display at the Florida State Fair.

"I've been doing it for 26 years, full time," Watson explained.  

He traded in his culinary sculpting for wood sculpting after watching another chainsaw carver bring forth a beautiful carving out of a pine log.

"I saw somebody else doing it and I thought that if they can do it, I can," Watson said.

The key to being a good chainsaw artist, Watson said, is stamina.

"You got to be able to hold on to a chainsaw a long time," Dave laughed.

He travels around the United States, doing several shows a year.
