FOX 13 wins 16 Emmy Awards, Including Prestigious News Excellence Honors

FOX 13's Mark Wilson won five Emmys at the 48th Annual Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards.

FOX 13 proudly earned 16 Emmy Statuettes in 11 categories at the 48th annual Suncoast Regional Emmy Awards.

Vice President of News John Hoffman received the special achievement Emmy in News Excellence on behalf of his newsroom team. The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences bases this award on the quality, breadth and efficacy of a news operation, stressing substance rather than style in sustaining excellence in coverage throughout the year.

"This award belongs to our entire newsroom. Excellence is built into everything we do. I am honored to lead this staff," said Hoffman, who is retiring in February after 37 years at FOX 13.

FOX 13 separately won four Emmys for Mark Wilson’s live coverage from France commemorating the 80th anniversary of the Normandy invasion. Special projects producer and photojournalist Corey Beckman partnered with Mark on this series and won an Emmy as well. Wilson and Beckman also flew with Tampa Bay area veterans on an Honor Flight to Washington—sharing their stories and highlighting the shortage of guardians needed to accompany them. Mark accepted a fifth Emmy for this assignment.

Craig Patrick and special project's photojournalist Craig Davisson also won Emmy Awards for producing long-form programs on civil rights, health, the environment, and health. They both won statuettes for Florida’s Boondoggle, a documentary on a failed canal project that burned taxpayers, drained a treasured Florida river, and decimated fish populations throughout our ecosystem.

Patrick and Davisson also won Emmys for Florida’s Foot Soldiers, a documentary and news series that profiles civil rights pioneers who changed the course of history and explains how Florida became the epicenter of America's civil rights movement in 1964.

Patrick received a third Emmy for his coverage of Floridians with severe developmental disabilities who have been stuck for years on a waiting list for care. Patrick and Davisson investigated the toll it’s taking on special-needs families and the cost to taxpayers .

The graphics and animation team at FOX 13 also won four Emmy Statuettes. Alex Uribe won in the category of Art Direction. Alex Mihee Sevelin, and Sean Geddes won Emmys in the category of visual effects for producing an animated holiday promo.
